Teachers On Strike!

It was time for the teachers to stand up and speak up. It was the first time in 24 years that teachers finally got the chance to go on strike. My literacy teacher Mrs Tele’a, had told us that they were going on strike to talk about 3 main points. Teachers need more time to teach us because they are more focused on doing work on their laptops and doing more paper work instead of spending time with us by helping us improve. They find it hard sometimes to separate marking our assessments from actually sitting down with us and just teaching us.

2. Resourcing for additional needs?

Teachers are also in need of additional needs because they
sometimes don’t have the resources they want to help us improve in our learning.
This is a important piece in our learning and if teachers don’t have the right
resources to help us, then how are we supposed to learn from our mistakes?
They also need extra help with those who have special needs as they also
want to learn too. Education is very important for us because without it,
we won’t have a future. Teachers are the key to us growing and becoming
responsible students who want to achieve their goals.

3. Better pay.

Teachers need more pay for the skills they use because they too
also need to pay bills and other payments for their daily lives. In my
opinion, this is a “Labour of Love” says Mrs Tele’a. What she means is yes,
teaching is their passion as they do want to share their knowledge with us,
but they also need to earn for their living and teaching isn’t an easy task.
That’s why teachers need more money because the pay doesn’t look decent
enough.

Thank you Miss Vaihu for helping me finish my work.
